The benefit to creating the Synonym tables is that they provide a method for the population of the following fields on the Applicant record:
•Industry
•Location
•Position
•Skills
These Synonym tables are used exclusively with the Résumé Import and Résumé Retro Search add-on modules within Ultra-Staff. They are based on the code table of each Synonym category (i.e., Industry, Location, Position, Skills) and using those codes, synonyms for each will need to be created. These Synonyms would be the many different ways that a Skill / Position / Industry / Location can be presented on a résumé, which “links” that Synonym to the corresponding Skill / Position / Industry / Location codes defined in Ultra-Staff.
Both the Résumé Import and Résumé Retro Search processes will scan the résumé for words that appear in the synonym columns for each of these categories, and if a match is found, the appropriate field on the Ultra-Staff Applicant record is populated with the appropriate Skill/Position/Location/Industry. Typically, these synonym tables are quite large, as a synonym should be created for each way that a word could appear on a résumé.
An example of a skill synonym would be this:
Skill Code: AP
Skill Synonyms: Accts Payable, AP, Acts Payable, Accounts Payable.
If a resume contained any of the Synonyms listed above, the code AP would be added to the Applicant’s SKILLS area.
Understandably, this table can be quite large and additions will continually need to be made to them as new Skills, Positions, Locations, and Industry codes are added to the Ultra-Staff tables.
Note that if any of the synonym tables have not been defined, the résumé will still be processed and all but the undefined Synonym tables will be populated on the Applicant record.
